12 Days of Giving - Jurupa Valley Adopt A Family

By Megan McClain

Many political, social and spiritual groups encourage being altruistic and giving back to your community year-round. However, something is in the air during the holiday season that really brings out the spirit of giving in all of us. For 12 days throughout December, we want to inspire you to give back to those who are in need in our local neighborhoods. Our "12 Days of Giving" feature shares the impact and needs of 12 different Inland Empire charities. Our hope is that each feature will inform, inspire and encourage you to donate, volunteer or give back in some way. Please consider giving the gift of kindness to a stranger this season, because it may be the only one they receive.

With family adoptions and youth programs, Jurupa Valley residents strive to create a better and sustainable tomorrow for the disadvantaged in their town.

Jurupa Valley Adopt a Family’s annual effort is to provide food, household supplies, health items and toys to families and seniors who need the extra help during the holiday season. It also strives to build sustainable skills in the youth and disadvantaged of Jurupa Valley with scholarships and youth programs.

The group offers financial, health and emotional assistance for seniors, helping them keep healthy and emotionally and financially safe.  It also has “On Equal Footing” youth development programs that help students prepare for adulthood by learning life skills and preparing for college.

One of the organization's biggest events is “The Santa Express,” where volunteers travel with Santa, handing out candy canes and collecting donations for the Holiday Adoption Program (the route is listed on the JVAF website).

The organization also coordinates with local non-profits to help distribute toys in the area, and also partners with local Spark of Love toy drives.

The group accepts donations to the organization via its website, through The Santa Express or other methods.

You can learn more about Jurupa Valley Adopt a Family program on its website, or keep in touch with them through their Facebook and other social media channels.
