Many political, social and spiritual groups encourage altruism and giving back to your community year-round. However, something is in the air during the holiday season that really brings out the spirit of giving in all of us. For 12 days throughout December, we want to inspire you to give back to those who are in need in our local neighborhoods. Our "12 Days of Giving" feature will share the impact and needs of 12 different Inland Empire charities. Our hope is that each feature will inform you and encourage you to donate, volunteer or give back in some way. Please consider giving the gift of kindness to a stranger this season, because it may be the only one they receive.

Family Service Association of Redlands has been an integral part of the community since 1898 serving low-income and homeless families. Their mission is to alleviate poverty, encourage self-sufficiency and promote the dignity of all!

Founded in 1898 by Alfred Smiley, Programs at the Family Service Association of Redlands provide emergency support, case management, education and referrals that focus on helping families become more self-sufficient and preventing homelessness.

The Family Service Association of Redlands (FSA) is and has been dedicated to helping those in need in our community for more than 115 years. FSA Redlands is a safety net program designed to assist with basic needs such as food, housing and clothing for the homeless, at-risk homeless, and low income residents of the East Valley. One of the major goals of the agency is to assist in the process of securing longer term stable housing for families that meet certain income guidelines and to guide the client into the often difficult process of self-sufficiency.

With the goal of self-sufficiency, they believe in “offering a hand up, not just a hand out.”

Some of their most successful programs include: Family Support, Housing Advocacy Program, Emergency and Surplus Food Distribution, Clothing and Warm Coats, Rental and Utility Assistance, Budgeting, Basic Life Skills Training, Information and Referral, Christmas Shop, Adopt-A-Family, Holiday Food Baskets, Teens Helping Teens and Parenting Classes.

Family Service Association of Redlands is located at 612 Lawton Strett in Redlands, CA 92374. To give back to this wonderful organization call (909) 793-2673 for more information, email info@redlandsfamilyservice.org or visit their website.

Remember that sharing is caring, and if you can’t personally give back, share it with someone who can! #ieshineon #12daysofgiving.
