Happy Hour at The State in Redlands
By Alisha Fleming
This week’s Happy Hour post takes us into the heart of Downtown Redlands to The State on State restaurant. Offering diverse upscale new American selections, The State is likely to make everyone in your party happy. The best part is that the food tastes every bit as good as it looks.
The interior is exactly what you’d want and expect from a small gastro-pub style restaurant, featuring dark wood and industrial-style lighting. The ambiance is casual and inviting, and outdoor seating is provided in the form of high-top counters facing out towards the downtown sidewalk. And as a gastro-pub should, it offers a wide variety of draught beers and bottles of whiskey.
Happy hour specials run seven days a week from 2-6 p.m., which makes it the perfect place to visit while strolling around Downtown Redlands on a lazy weekend afternoon. Beer, wine, well vodka and well bourbon are all discounted along with specialty appetizers. Draught beers are $1 off, wine by the glass is $2 off, and well bourbon and vodka are $4 each.
My favorite dish, Brussels sprouts, is $2 off and, even if you aren’t a fan, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised. Portabella fries and bruschetta are also $2 off with the portabella fries coming in as a close second in a taste test.
It’s well-worth dropping by for an early dinner to take advantage of the drink and appetizer specials before ordering main dishes from the regular menu. The State’s regular prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality of the food and the obvious care and attention that is put into each dish. The menu includes upscale burgers, salads, specialty sandwiches and a variety of other main dishes such as New York steak, wild sea bass and a mac and cheese skillet.
