Summer is upon us friends! I don't know about you, but I’m really excited for the change in season. I have been planning away with activities for my kids and entire family to stay active and enjoy the outdoors without melting away in the IE heat!

But even if you don't have the entire summer to hang with family and friends, you can still channel that oceanside vibe without showing off all your goods. So I have put together a few tips for getting that casual beachy look you crave while still looking age appropriate and fun.

Let’s talk shorts . . .

The most common complaint I hear from my clients is where to find shorts. I have a few ideas about shorts…

Last summer, I made my own! DIY shorts out of jeans you once loved or are no longer wearing but still enjoy the fit of the waistband and hips, cut them! Repurposing your old denim is the perfect way to get the perfect shorts for summer. Read my DIY Shorts tutorial from last summer, HERE.

Next up, look for shorts that have at least 2% spandex in the fabric content. This will give you some wiggle room and make for a very comfortable denim that you will love for summers to come. Try my Distressed Boyfriend Shorts, with a modest inseam and modern styling, these shorts will make you feel like beach days are every day.

Keep it cool on tops . . .

For beachy style that functions, you need a few great tees and tanks. I look for tanks that have a more flowy fit because they look cute with shorts and even tunics with shorts using the half tuck technique is perfect for a beachy casual feel.

Get a denim alternative . . .

When temps rise to upwards of 90-100 degrees and shorts are not appropriate for work or dressy occasions, get a lightweight pant like these joggers. They look amazing dressed up with heels or worn with a tank and sandals. Either way they are sure to keep your style cool when things heat up!

Lastly, you can’t channel Oceanside looks without beachy waves in your hair. So whether your hair is long or short, you can quickly and easily get the beach wave look using a flat iron. I made up a little video to show you just how I have been getting the perfect beach wave in my pixie cut hairstyle . . .
