By Natalie Bates
Fall is almost here, and with it comes cooler weather (hopefully) and shorter days. What better way to make use of those last long days of summer than attending an outdoor concert? The comfortably warm nights are perfect for grabbing a beer and your favorite fried fair food while enjoying the sounds of some amazing big name acts. Whether you are into funk or classic rock, pop or country, there is something for everyone at the Los Angeles County Fair’s End of Summer Concert Series.
The line-up kicks off on Friday, Sept. 2, with a night of ’70s funk, R&B, and soul, featuring The Brothers Johnson, Rose Royce, The Original Lakeside, Heatwave, Evelyn “Champagne” King and Jimmie Walker. The fun continues throughout Labor Day weekend, with Bad Company performing on Saturday, Camila on Sunday and The Isley Brothers and The O’Jays on Monday.
The second weekend of the fair (Sept. 8-11) features another awesome selection of acts, starting with WAR with Tierra and Malo on Thursday, Blondie with special guest The Smithereens on Friday, Iggy Azalea on Saturday, and Gabriel Iglesias #FluffyBreaksEven Tour on Sunday.
The fun continues during the third weekend (Sept. 15-18) with acts like DNCE with special guest LunchMoney Lewis on Thursday and an “I Love the ’90s” night on Friday featuring Vanilla Ice, Kid N Play, Color Me Badd, All 4 One, Tone Loc and Young MC. Lee Brice with special guest Jon Pardi will perform on Saturday and Los Temerarios on Sunday.
The last weekend of the fair (Sept. 22-25) is just as packed with as many not-to-be-missed groups as the rest of the fair, starting with Ramon Ayala y sus Bravos del Norte on Thursday. Tower of Power and Los Lobos will play on Friday night, followed by Billy Currington with special guest LeAnn Rimes on Saturday. The End of Summer Concert Series wraps up with Chicago with special guest Grand Funk Railroad on Sunday.
All of the concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available online through ticketmaster.com. Fair admission is included in the price of the tickets. A limited number of free tickets are available each day beginning at 2 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Children 2 and younger are admitted free.
In addition to these big concerts in the grandstand stage, there will also be several smaller stages throughout the fair featuring local musicians, cover bands and DJs. Be sure to check those out as well. Information on these performances can be found in the daily fair guides available at the entrance and at customer service booths.
Don’t let the chance to see these great performers pass you by. Visit the L.A. County Fair to end the summer on a high note.
