We have so many reasons besides the perfect weather to love living in Southern California. Our sunny winter days are perfect for renting bikes so your family can all pedal throughout the scenic Big Bear Lake-side. If you’re more into soaking in the music and art that livens the area, there are plenty of events to add culture to your life, and it’s all happening this week in the Inland Empire.

MONDAY

1/19, Bike Ride – Rent a Bike from Bear Valley Bikes in Big Bear Lake. Rentals are $15 per hour, $45 for half day (four hours), and $60 for a full day (eight hours). With a ton of biking trails looping througout the mountains, there’s no better scenic way to spend this beautiful holiday with the kids. Stick to your resolution, and get your fitness on!

TUESDAY

1/20, Batting Cages - Baseball at Scandia in Ontario from 12p.m. to 10p.m. Thirty minutes for $30 or 12 pitches for 6 tokens. These batting cages have a range of speeds and styles for every level and type of athlete. Eight fast pitch cages will pitch daring patrons baseballs at speeds from 25 to 70 mph. There are also seven slow pitch softball cages and 1 fast pitch softball cage where speeds can reach 55mph. Practice makes perfect, so earn perfection here with your family.


WEDNESDAY

1/21, Basketball Game – Los Angeles Defenders vs. Santa Cruz at Citizen’s Business Bank Arena in Ontario at 7p.m. The D-Fenders are the Lakers’ NBA Development team, aka their D-list team. The D-Fenders are making way their way to the IE to show off their sheer athleticism in an arena full of screaming fans and happy families.

THURSDAY

1/22, Art & Music – Art After Hours - Spring 2015 Kick-Off! + KSPC at Pomona College of Art from 5p.m. to 11p.m. Free, and open to the public. When the doors open, current exhibitions will fill the charming space with color, vibrancy and pure creativity. Music will start to coat the walls courtesy of KSPC at 9p.m., so stick around to absorb the culture drenched good time.

1/22, Art Workshop – Musical Themed Art Workshop at The Green Gypsy in Claremont from 7p.m. to 9p.m. Cost is $20, which includes all supplies. Please register for this class in advance via phone or email. The Green Gypsie is an adorable store in The Claremont Packing House that also houses artists and artists-wannabes for some late evening creative workshops. If you are a fan of music (who isn’t?), then you’re going to enjoy this week’s craft.

FRIDAY

1/23, Singing Competition – Karaoke Battle Royale at Ovitt Family Community Library in Ontario. Free for participants ages 13 to 18. Do you want to be the ultimate karaoke champion? Get inspired by shows like American Idol and The Voice, and bring your best vocals to the Ovitt Meeting Room at the library.

1/23, Dueling Musical Performance – Beatles vs. Stones Musical Shootout at Grove Theatre in Upland at 8p.m. Tickets are $25 to $50. Will the most rock ‘n’ roll debate of all time be resolved at this musical battle of iconic legends? The Rolling Stones tribute band, Jumping Jack Flash, will face off against Abbey Road—the band who emulates The Beatles.
