3 Ways to Celebrate Women

03.08.12

Hi neighbors -

Happy International Women’s Day!  But I suppose regardless of what day it is we all have the chance to celebrate women and their contributions to history and humanity.  Plus, March is Women’s History Month so we have the whole month – not just a day – to celebrate a woman we know, commemorate her and maybe pat ourselves on the back a little bit.  *wink* ;)

One way you can celebrate women is to check out the numerous national programs recognizing the contributions of women and also bringing attention to major issues affecting women.  Here are a few examples I’ve really enjoyed.

1. AKQA ad firm created the ad (posted above) encouraging women to wear red lipstick today in solidarity to show our power.  You can also go to the ad campaign’s flash site and learn more about women’s issues happening in China.  Check it out.

2. Learn about women’s history in the expansive library of online exhibits from the National Women’s History Museum’s website.  Super neat!

3. For more International Women’s Day events check out the website dedicated to the special day.

If you’re looking for local ways to celebrate women here are some Inland Empire organizations empowering women in business, lifestyle and more.  If you are member of any of these organizations please leave us a comment below and tell us what you think is the benefit of being apart of the group.

1. California Women Lead, Inland Empire Chapter - a non-partisan, issue neutral association committed to encouraging and training women to be leaders in their communities.

2. Inland Empire Women’s Business Center and Coachella Valley Women’s Business Center - assists existing and aspiring women business owners to start and grow successful businesses by providing valuable resources.

3. Alternative to Domestic Violence is a private, non-prof org serving all of western Riverside County with a range of services aimed at breaking the cycle of physical and emotional violence within families and the wider community.

4. The Women of the Inland Empire Self Defense Seminar empowering women and teaching how to kick some ass!

5. Inland Empire Women’s Empowerment Group is a diverse group of women who attend various social activities that enrich their lives.  Activities like health walks, movie nights and a soon to be scheduled “Learning about Blogging Essentials Class.”

6. The vision of the National Association of Women Business Owners – Inland Empire is to unite women business owners in the Inland Empire for Profit, Influence and Community!

7. SoCal Lady Bloggers is a great group of female bloggers in Southern California who help empower, educate and provide community and resources to its members so that they can be successful with their passion for blogging.  {I’m recently a new member so I can say first hand that this group is active and awesome!}

Another way you can celebrate women is by supporting your favorite local female owned business like some of the following:

  • Keyways Winery (Temecula) – the only female owned and managed winery in the Temecula valley.  You go, girl!
  • Mrs. Tiggy-Winkles (Riverside) – gift shop with so many items you could be sucked in for hours…it’s a good thing :)
  • Stamp Your Heart Out (Claremont) – all things stamps, scrapbooking, paper crafts and more!
  • Cheating a little bit here but the Sew Funky Market happens at the end of this month and it has a lot of great female owned businesses showing off their talents with uniquely hand-crafted goods.
I know we haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of the numerous female owned businesses in the IE so please don’t hesitate to give us a shout on our Facebook wall or tweet us and tell us what your favorite Inland Empire female owned business is.

Till next time…

You simply copied somebody else’s story

Be grateful you for spending time to speak about this, I think strongly about that and delight in reading read more about this topic. Whenever possible, just like you become expertise, do you mind updating your web site with a lot more details? It can be highly great for me. Two thumb up in this article!

hello!,I like your writing so a lot! proportion we keep up a correspondence extra approximately your post on AOL? I require a specialist on this house to resolve my problem. May be that’s you! Looking forward to look you.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

I think other site proprietors should take this web site as an model, very clean and excellent user genial style and design, as well as the content. You are an expert in this topic!

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.

Ah quand une suite ? :p

Really nice style and design and excellent content , nothing at all else we need : D.

Hello, I think your site might be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your blog site in Firefox, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, superb blog!

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

Excellent whip! I need to apprentice when you amend your blog, how will i sign up to get a blog page? A accounts helped me some sort of suitable bargain. We had been a bit more well known of this your over the air provided vivid obvious concept

I intended to send you this very small observation in order to say thank you over again for those fantastic thoughts you’ve featured on this page. It has been simply remarkably generous with people like you to deliver extensively what exactly many people would’ve marketed for an electronic book to help with making some bucks for their own end, chiefly given that you could have tried it in case you decided. These concepts also served to be a great way to realize that most people have the same desire just as my own to figure out whole lot more pertaining to this matter. I know there are a lot more enjoyable opportunities in the future for individuals who looked at your site.
