Claremont Village Businesses Promote Philanthropy on #GivingTuesday

Businesses throughout the Claremont Village are stepping up to support local nonprofit organizations this year by donating a portion of sales proceeds on #GivingTuesday, the worldwide day of giving and philanthropy on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Nonprofits from the area will be paired with 28 different Claremont Village businesses and will receive 10 percent of their partner’s sales on Giving Tuesday. The event is held in communities around the world to encourage philanthropy and celebrate generosity everywhere.

Held annually in the United States on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday marks the kickoff to the holiday giving season by encouraging businesses, charities, families and individuals to harness the collective power of partnerships by coming together to give back and support community charities and causes in an organized manner.

Giving Tuesday is the offshoot of other seasonal days such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, with the focus on giving back rather than sales and deals. Today, the event is held in more than 70 countries and includes more than 45,000 corporate and nonprofit participants.

Claremont shoppers will have the opportunity learn about the ways to get involved with the various community causes at the nearly 30 participating Village locations.

Claremont’s involvement with Giving Tuesday follows the efforts of the Claremont Village Marketing Group, and organization formed in 2001 by six Claremont merchants to share resources and time to improve overall business in the Village. The group has conducted numerous events to support community organizations, thanks to the participation of hundreds of Claremont Village businesses.

Founded in 2012, Giving Tuesday was created by the Belfer Center for Innovations and Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. Since 1874, the Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact, a cultural center located in New York City, has united individuals around the values of service and giving back. Giving Tuesday’s sole purpose is to connect diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world to celebrate and encourage giving. Countless influencers and founding partners have collaborated in the commitment of the #GivingTuesday movement in order to shape, grow and strengthen the movement across the world.
