Community | 12 Days of Giving - Day 11
By: Ashley Solis
Many political, social and spiritual groups would encourage being altruistic and giving back to your community year-round. However, something is in the air during the holiday season that really brings out the spirit of giving in all of us. For 12 days throughout December, we want to inspire you to give back to those who are in need in our local neighborhoods. Our "12 Days of Giving" feature will share the impact and needs of twelve different Inland Empire charities. Our hope is that each feature will inform you and encourage you to donate, volunteer or give back in some way. Please consider giving the gift of kindness to a stranger this season, because it may be the only one they receive.
Day 11 — Operation Gratitude in Redlands
Operation Gratitude sends over 150,000 care packages to the men and women of the military each year. These care packages are full of yummy snacks, items to entertain, personal care necessities, hand-made items and letters of gratitude. The packages are disseminated to new recruits, veterans, first responders, wounded warriors, care givers and deployed service members overseas. Operation Gratitude’s missions is “To lift the spirits and meet the evolving needs of our Active Duty and Veteran communities, and provide volunteer opportunities for all Americans to express their appreciation to members of our Military.”
In Redlands, Lois Lauer Realty just wrapped up their care packages, but the opportunity to keep giving is not over. There are numerous ways that you can get involved. Currently Operation Gratitude’s most immediate needs are personal letters troops and veterans, hand-made scarves and Paracord bracelets, Beanie Babies and financial donations. Also, this year they are requesting for donations of toothbrush and toothpaste sets and are hoping to receive 100,000. You can also become an Operation Gratitude Ambassador or volunteer in your community. For many more ways that you can help, please visit their website.
Remember that sharing is caring, and if you can’t personally give back, share it with someone who can! #ieshineon #12daysofgiving
