Many political, social and spiritual groups would encourage being altruistic and giving back to your community year-round. However, something is in the air during the holiday season that really brings out the spirit of giving in all of us. For 12 days throughout December, we want to inspire you to give back to those who are in need in our local neighborhoods. Our "12 Days of Giving" feature will share the impact and needs of twelve different Inland Empire charities. Our hope is that each feature will inform you and encourage you to donate, volunteer or give back in some way. Please consider giving the gift of kindness to a stranger this season, because it may be the only one they receive.
Day Three — The Pink Ribbon Place in Riverside
Many of us forget that having healthy bodies and minds are not common for everyone. Over 600 women and men are diagnosed with breast cancer every day in the United States. For those that receive this devastating news, especially around the holidays, it can be a particularly difficult time. This is where The Pink Ribbon Place comes in.
Each year, The Pink Ribbon Place in Riverside provides services, all free of cost, to nearly 1,000 families. This program provides support groups, individual and family counseling by a licensed California therapist, survivor mentor-ship for the newly diagnosed, health and wellness programs, such as yoga and meditative healing and diagnostic services.
In addition, a resource center offers products such as an American Cancer Society wig bank, breast prosthesis bank, hats, scarves, camisoles and bras. You can help by visiting their thrift store, Pink Ribbon Thrift, and all proceeds go directly to help individuals receiving services. If you would like to make a donation directly to their diagnostic program, please do so here.
Remember that sharing is caring, and if you can’t personally give back, share it with someone who can! #ieshineon #12daysofgiving
