One week into 2015, and it’s no surprise that starting a new healthy lifestyle seems to top many people’s list of resolutions. Whether it’s going paleo or gluten-free, attempting a juice cleanse, or joining the gym, there are numerous ways that you can make sure your 2015 is healthy from the inside-out. Another great way to get motivated towards getting healthy and in shape is by running in a race. There are so many awesome races all over Inland SoCal that benefit charitable foundations throughout the year. If you’re ready to get started by joining a local marathon this weekend, or if you’re looking for a future race to start training for, then we have some great suggestions for you.
This Sat, Jan. 10th, you get an opportunity to run among the historic citrus groves during the 6th Annual Citrus Heritage Run in Riverside. The Inland Empire has been home to citrus trees since the 1880s. By the ‘20s, San Bernardino County was home to over 50,000 acres of orange, lemon and grapefruit trees. Unfortunately, much of the land was sold to developers over the years, and only about 6,000 acres of these citrus trees remain. Lucky for you, the 6th Annual Citrus Heritage Run allows you to experience the agricultural history of the IE, while getting fit and supporting a good cause.
This race is organized by the Riverside Road Runners, a running and walking club that assists local students in becoming healthier. All funds from the Citrus Heritage Run will support Riverside students in running programs and provide scholarships for local high school seniors. You can participate in either the 5K or the half-marathon. If you have children, they can also have fun while they run their own one mile race. What better way to achieve your fitness goals than by also helping others achieve their own?
If you are brand-new to running, there are also numerous local races throughout the year that will leave you with plenty of time to train. See below for some of our favorite Inland Empire races in 2015:
