The Repertory Opera Company in Pomona is pleased to announced its upcoming opera Gianni Schicchi with shows beginning on Saturday, March 12th at 2p.m. and continuing until March 19th.


This fast-paced and hilarious opera from Italian composer Giacomo Puccino was originally created in 1917 and remains his most entertaining and frequently performed opera. It features spectacular musical harmonies, energizing ensembles and captivating love songs.

This simple plot centers around greed and pride, focusing on a clever servant who wins a battle of wits against one of society’s best families. Woven amidst the music and humor is a star-crossed relationship between an heir of the royal family, Rinuccio, and Gianni Schicchi’s daughter, Lauretta.


In one of opera’s most cherished musical performances, Lauretta pours out her heart, begging her father to let her marry her darling Rinuccio.

Following this one-act performance will be a selection of scenes from other popular Puccini operas, including Madama Butterfly, Turandot, Suor Angelica and La BohemeThis afternoon of classic Italian opera is sure to be entertaining and delightful to all who attend.

Gianni Schicchi performances will be held at the First Christian Church, 1751 N. Park Ave., Pomona, CA 91768 with performances on March 12th, 13th, and 19th at 2p.m. and March 16th at 7:30p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for children and students.
