New Year Wellness Goal How-To Primer

By Antonia Roots, owner of My Bump to Bundle

The holidays are no doubt one of the busiest times for us mommas; yet, it is the best time for reflection of a year past. Also, coming to the close of a year is a good time to evaluate your current wellness and lifestyle demands and to make a plan.

Starting the New Year with resolutions sometimes does always work out as we hoped after about 10 weeks. December is a great month to brainstorm and write down goals of personal lifestyle changes and improvements, or even maintenance, so that we are prepared for the first week of the year.

Here is a guide to make sure your goals are ones that you will meet and accomplish in 2017. The strategy that has seen positive results is establishing S.M.A.R.T. Goals.

The S.M.A.R.T. Goal system was established by Doran, Miller and Cunningham, authors in the November 1981 issue of “Management Review,” and has been used by professional life, wellness and business coaches to guide you to live your best life.

S = Specific – What are you going to accomplish?

Example: Spending more quality time with my children, while being an at-  home working mom.

M = Measurable – How can you measure progress to know you are accomplishing your goal?

Example: I have written sections of time into my schedule just for my children and I to be together and my phone will be out of reach.

A = Achievable or Attainable – What is the motivation for this goal?

Example: To teach my children that being with family is the most important way to spend time.

R = Relevant – Why am I setting this goal now?

Example: I have experienced what it has been like to hustle in the business for two years and learned what areas to really focus my time and energy for the best return of client participation and interest.

T = Time-based – What is the deadline, and is it realistic? (How long do you need to prepare for this change and have it start?)

Example: I plan to have this in place by February 5, 2017.

I am ready to make this goal a reality!

You can download a S.M.A.R.T. Goals worksheet by clicking on the blog page.

It is not about being empowered. You all ready have the power within you. By making S.M.A.R.T. Goals, digging deeper into yourself for what you want most from life and the value of your time, and being inspired by others, you can achieve what you hope and visualize yourself accomplishing in the New Year. Get excited and fired up to take your inner power and make 2017 the best year for your personal wellness, healthy lifestyle practices, family values and business ventures.

May you and your family have a safe and blessed holiday season.
