Comical, intense and mysterious theateretical performances are for sure to keep the audience wanting more. Ophelia’s Jump Theatre presents A Behanding in Spokane by Martin McDonagh from March 3-12, 2017 at Ophelia’s Jump temporary location 2114 Porterfield Way, Upland (next door to Last Name Brewing).
A 2010 black comedy, A Behanding in Spokane conveys the story of one very intense night in a ratty run-down motel room. Three people meet to make a black market deal for a severed hand. The evening is the peak of one man’s quarter century search for his hand that was cruelly taken from him in Spokane. A small time drug dealer and his girlfriend find that a simple scam for a few hundred dollars can have deadly consequences. As the night unfolds they realize the stakes are much higher when they find themselves chained to a radiator near a burning gas can. Their saving grace might just be the odd receptionist they met in his boxer shorts on the way in, but this is the most excitement he’s seen in years and he may not be as helpful as they hope. The real question to ask is, what’s in the suitcase?
“Insane yet also fiendishly funny. McDonagh is a specialist in unleashed violence, in which he shamelessly revels. Here the violence is comical, and e are kept guessing throughout a farce that is irresistible as it is improbable…moves at farce speed from shock to comic shock.” – Bloomberg.com
