Ophelia’s Jump presents TRIBES by Nina Riane, directed by Beatrice Casagran at The Theatre Company Performing Arts Studio in Upland.
Ophelia’s Jump is a theatre company from Claremont, California. It was founded by Beatrice Casagran, a veteran actor, director and teacher as well as Caitlin Lopez, an actor and improv comedian. Ophelia’s Jump has been producing creative interpretations of classical and award winning works, in addition to new works from talented local artists, for four years. The theatre company focuses on delivering performances that promote discussion and wonder in audiences.
Ophelia’s Jump is brings their newest production—TRIBES, a look at a day in the life of one family’s experience with their son Billy being deaf. Billy’s family has raised him without adopting American Sign Language in their home, and when he returns from his university, he struggles to re-adapt to his hearing family. This is because along his journey, Billy meets Sylvia, a young woman who is losing her hearing and being raised by a family who is deaf. He finally learns what it means to be heard. Sylvia teaches Billy sign language and introduces him to a supportive community.
Tribes is playing at The Theatre Company Performing Arts Studio at 1400 N. Benson Ave., Upland. Opening day is Friday, June 3rd at 8 p.m. and will continue its run through June 12th. General admission starts at $25. For more information go to opheliasjump.org or call (909) 541-5850.
