Thanks to El Niño, our snow-capped mountains are full of icy fun! This is exciting, because snow is something us Southern Californians never get to enjoy locally without a visit to the mountains. Head up the hill with your children in tow, and participate in snow activities from snow play to snowboarding and more!
1/18, Snow Tubing – Tubing at Snowdrift Snow Tubing Park in Running Springs from 10a.m. to 4p.m. Admission is $15 per person each hour and is cash only with an ATM available. Children under 36 inches tall are admitted free with paying adult. Parking is $5. Breathe in the fresh mountain air while sliding headfirst down a snowy hill! This is not only the oldest tubing park in Southern California, it is also the largest.
1/19, Snow Play – Big Bear Snow Play in Big Bear Lake from 10a.m. to 4p.m. Cost for unlimited rides with inner tube provided is $30 per person. Nothing says “snow day” like building a snowman in fluffy white snow. Sliding down a hill lifted just above the ground on an inner tube is quite a thrill, and it’s the type of memory children will never forget.
1/20, Snowboarding & Skiing – Snowboard and Ski at Bear Mountain in Big Bear. Full Day hours are from 9a.m. to 4p.m. Lift ticket prices range between $35-75. Half Day hours are from 12p.m. to 4p.m. Lift ticket prices range between $30-68. Even younger children enjoy learning how to ski and snowboard. Don’t let them miss out on the fun at this picturesque mountain.
1/21, Snowboarding & Skiing – Snowboard and Ski at Mountain High in Wrightwood. West Run is open from 8:30a.m. to 10p.m. and East Run is open from 8:30a.m. to 4p.m. Lift tickets range from $25-64, while seniors over 70 and children under six with paying adult are admitted free. Get ready to fly atop white powder, and bust a sick move if you have any!
1/21, Tubing – Tubing at Mt. Baldy Ski Lifts in Mt. Baldy from 11a.m. to 5p.m. See website for pricing, and call ahead to check availability. Children under 36 inches are not allowed in the tubing park. Sessions times last for 90 minutes starting at 8:30a.m., 10:30a.m., 12:30p.m. and 2:30p.m. There’s nothing more thrilling than zooming down the side of a mountain on a tube! Whether you want to climb to the top of the hill to enjoy a little snow play or are just looking to take a quick ride back down, this is a family-fun activity you don’t want to pass up.
1/22, Snowboarding & Skiing – Night Sessions at Snow Summit in Big Bear from 3-8:30p.m. Price is $28-50 for night session only. Go online to see more pricing options. There is nothing quite like zipping down the snowy mountainside in the nighttime hours. Whether you simply want to cruise the slopes or choose to take on the jumps and jibs along the way, this mountain has you covered.
