In the season-less southern California, we don’t often wake up to Jack Frost nipping at our nose. Let’s be honest—scarves, boots and jackets are a novelty that all women of this region look forward to when the weather “drops” to a balmy 60 degrees. In lieu of the lack of white Christmas’, adding bright winter whites to your closet seems like an appropriate nod to the season of comfort and joy.
Let’s first recognize that it takes a brave woman to wear bright whites in any form, especially if you’ve got little people with little hands, and let’s not mention that tired cliché about wearing white after Labor Day. So what’s the appeal? If breaking stereotypes isn’t really your thing, think about all of the rich and warm hues of the season that could easily transition your clean colored closet into winter. Crisp white basics are a blank canvas you get to paint with any combination of layers you can dream up. Not to mention that the best kept secret is how effortless it really is to layer neutrals with more neutrals. So step right up to your closet, pull out your favorite fair and frosty pieces, and proceed without caution because you really can’t go wrong with crisp bright whites for a white haute winter.
The key to pairing white on white, or any one color for that matter, is bravely mixing textures. A fuzzy sweater top with an oversized knit cardigan looks way chic for this simple combo that includes cutoff denim.
Got a date or more likely, a date night in? This light combo is perfect for a walk through the Riverside Mission Inn Festival of Lights or a Redbox and wine date after the kids finally go to sleep. A silky slip dress might be a little more than you’d bargain for normally, but when you layer this lace-trimmed dress with a flannel loop scarf, ankle boots and fun socks, this cute combo begs for hugs and snuggles.
