I often refer to the restaurants we visit as the hidden culinary gems of the Inland Empire, this restaurant is actually truly hidden and is definitely a gem you don't want to miss. We visited The Orchard Restaurant inside the Doubletree Hilton Claremont and were impressed with the creative, seasonal menu. It's not often times a restaurant inside a hotel is so notable.
Lucky for us, The Orchard is participating in the Claremont Restaurant Week 2017. It’s that magical time of year where Claremont restaurants provide a pre-fixed menu, often times three courses for a deeply discounted price. You can choose one appetizer, one entree and one dessert.
Here's a look at what The Orchard is offering during Claremont Restaurant Week:
If I had stumbled upon The Orchard on my lonesome and didn’t write a food column I would want to keep this treasure to myself. It’s that good. Fortunately for you all, it’s my job to tell you about Inland Empire restaurants with exceptional food.
Appetizer: Broiled Heirloom Cauliflower
We decided for our appetizer to go with the Broiled Heirloom Cauliflower. It is presented like a tiny forest rising out of a lake of cheese. This ain’t your mama’s Velveeta and broccoli. The heirloom cauliflower is beautiful, with the familiar white florets and striking green variants standing out against the fondue.
It is cooked just right, still firm and with a slight crispness but there is no trace of a raw edge in the flavor. The fondue almost steals the show, I was tempted to be uncouth and eat it with a spoon. It is made from a white Vermont Cheddar, roasted garlic, and cream. The roasted garlic is such a nice touch, it has gone into that creamy, rich, and almost sweet stage. There are sizeable pieces of it in the sauce to enjoy. It’s topped with thyme breadcrumbs, which spent some time in the salamander to get some nice toasted spots on the cheese before being brought out. You’re going to wish you had a second helping of this dish!
Main Course: Grilled Brie, Parma Ham & Pear Sandwich
The main course I chose is like a sophisticated adult version of grilled cheese. It is also just as comforting. The ciabatta bun is warm and grilled with crispy edges throughout, which is a delightful counter balance to the soft interior. The generous slices of brie are so unbelievably creamy and smooth. Its demure flavor lets thin slices of Parma Ham have their moment. Peppery arugula provides the necessary bite and soft ripened Anjou pear gives a subtle sweetness that highlights the natural sweetness of the brie.
Dessert: Banana Pistachio Crepes
I know. I had you at "crepes." Right?
The bananas are sauteed in a caramel and vanilla to really give depth to this dessert. In order to enhance the actual banana essence, they also used banana liqueur. The bananas, buttery silky caramel, and chocolate ganache sauce are the body of the crepe. It’s then topped with toasted pistachios and freshly whipped cream.
The best part of it all, this amazing three course menu is set for Claremont Restaurant week at $16.99 .
How is this even possible? Go, take advantage of this, you’ll thank me later. We can't wait to go back and try a different combination of courses. If you go remember to tag #TheOrchard, so we can check out what you're tasting.
The Orchard is located in The Doubletree by Hilton in Claremont. Walk past the lobby into the courtyard and it will be on your left.
